CLIL UNIT ON SALVADOR DALI

RATIONALE
The aim of this unit is a 5th class of
Liceo Classico, and covers one topic of the module "The 20th
Century: from Spain to the World".
The starting material is composed of a short Dalì's biography and a critical analysis of three paintings, representative of the evolution of his art throughout the whole century.

In order to support students' learning, the document has been transformed and integrated with interactive materials in order to visually and auditorily help the learners.
SCAFFOLDING STAGES
The original text has
undergone three different stages of elaboration
in order to offer visual, auditory and language support to the
students.
Stage 1 - Text formatting
Paragraphs have been re-ordered according to the teaching purposes
and provided with headlines. Sentences carrying secondary
information have
been cut out.
Remaining paragraphs have been shortened and keywords
formatted in bold.
Stage 2 - Transcoding
Key concepts have been transcoded into visuals, so as to enhance the message effectiveness.
Stage 3 - Language support
Synonims have been added, further paragraphs have been reduced or eliminated; a revision corner with a conceptual comic strip has been provided, too
ACTIVITIES
Students are asked to work directly on the new concepts they have learned.
Some interactive tests have been created with hot potatoes and gathered into a Tests Table of Contents. It is possible to navigate from one test to the other, too.
A listening activity has been added using an Audio Editor and an Online Dictionary has been provided to help students to do vocabulary related activities.
Some pictures have been collected and gathered in a pdf file in order to allow students to look at paintings while doing the activities.
ASSESSMENT
The final assessment test is based on a semi-structured questioning activity related to one of Dalì's masterpieces, on a choosing and on a matching activities.
